Christmas: the possum and two dead deer

We had a great time in Lincoln with my side of the family. We did the traditional Christmas eve service, which was really nice. We had a Christmas meal that began with us singing Joy to the World as a family. My nieces and nephew are great to watch opening gifts, they are really great kids. The rest of the time was pretty low key and we enjoyed doing things like playing guitar hero that Santa brought my brother in law. The kids put on a Christmas program that was so great and I wish I had a video of it. It was a choreographed number to the song, when the snow comes down in tinsel town. It was great.
An interesting thing about where my parents live is that there always seems to be neighborhood drama. It has been that way since I can remember. The stories are varied, equally strange and often times unbelievable. But they continue to happen. This year it started with the possum that appeared Christmas night. B spotted it out the window and then the kids proceeded to freak out. My dad tried to chase it down and the dogs were going nuts!!!
The following day we were sitting watching TV in my parents sitting room and my sister asks what is that neighbors dog eating? I immediately thought it was the possum. She looked out the sliding doors and said it's bigger than that. Then she exclaimed, "It's a deer." Yep. The house behind my parents had not one, but two dead deer laying in their backyard. We were all terribly grossed out. So much so that we had to get the binoculars out to get a closer look (pretty common occurrence when strange things go down in da' hood). Apparently one deer had been there for over 2 weeks. As it normally happens my mom said, "That must be against a city code, who should I call?" After some discussion she decided to call animal control. She explained the situation and they told her that someone would come and remove the dead animals. Sometime late in the afternoon they were removed and we all laughed at how random the whole scene was. I even got a couple of shots (pardon the pun) before they were taken away.

What to do?

The next few weeks I will be on break from work and have been thinking about what to do with my time (other than visit family). This week B and myself (mostly B) completed a 2000 piece puzzle. He is freakishly good at puzzles. We may start another one this week. We are on the hunt for the Jingle Bell Rock this week too. I have a novel that I started this summer that I would like to finish and of course there is art *deep sigh*. This is something that I really desire to do, but never seem to make time for it. That begs the question-do I really desire to? Not sure. I just know that I want to want to create. I have enjoyed the yearly creative process that comes with wrapping gifts. It is so much fun. Every gift is like a blank canvas. I think about the person the gift is going to, the supplies I have and the process begins. I am always so proud of the gifts I wrap. I think that part of what I am giving is in the presentation. I am hopeful that this process has triggered my artistic side. For now, I am just thankful that I loved doing this for those that I love. I am hoping that I make time to connect with people that I don't normally get to see. I want to go to the library and check out baby name books and other pregnancy resources (any suggestions?). I'd love to curl up and sip hot drinks with my hubby and watch movies. Love that. Hope this finds you well. I would love to share some of my break with you if you are around.

Catching up

I have lots of catching up to do on this blog. Whew! I started another post and then when I went to look at my photos I realized that a lot more has gone on in the last month than I realized.

I guess that the biggest news is that we are having a baby in June! The first 3 months I was a mess with morning sickness. I am really hoping the sickness part is over now that I am 14 weeks. I am feeling a lot more energetic and sleeping less than 12 hours a night. B and I have had the joy of having 2 ultrasounds and hearing the heartbeat twice already. It is finally feeling real to me. In mid-January we will get to find out the gender of our child.

We had 2 Thanksgivings one at our house. B's family came to us and we had an afternoon full of turkey and wonderful company!Nephews and Sister in law (minus niece and brother in law)

We went to Nebraska for an extended family Thanksgiving. My parents house was full to the brim. It was fun and crazy all at the same time.Family Dinner (minus a few heads) Nieces and Nephews-they are getting so old (but still cute)

I was able to spend time with some of my closest friends last weekend. It was refreshing and made me really miss times like that we use to have. I hope over the years we can share moments like that together. It is really hard to get a baby to look at the camera.
